A Touch of Culture and Sisterhood: Dagaaba Sisters HonourSMI Sr. Julian Atuuna as She Marks Silver Jubilee

The celebration of 25 years of selfless service by Sr. Juliana Ayinpoka Atuuna SMI at the Sacred Heart Cathedral Church, Bolgatangaon Sunday, August 29, was enriched by a beautiful and emotional display of Dagaaba culture and sisterhood.

In a special presentation, some Dagaaba Sisters brought to life the traditional role and spirit of playmates, offering a joyful reminder of the cultural practices that accompany significant milestones in the lives of people within the Dagaaba tradition.

With warmth, humour and deep affection, the Sisters acted out what would traditionally be expected of playmates, creating moments of laughter and emotion among the congregation. Their presentation was not merely entertainment; it was a beautiful expression of identity, culture, friendship and communal belonging.

The Dagaaba Sisters—Sr. Rose W., Sr. Agnes Billeh and Sr. Janet Siebelaare—also presented a parcel and a puppy to Sr. Juliana as special gifts.

Beyond the material value of the gifts was a deeper message: “We celebrate you, we appreciate you, and we stand with you.”

For 25 years, Sr. Juliana has generously offered her life in the service of God, the Church and humanity as a Sister of Mary Immaculate. Her journey of consecrated life is a testimony of perseverance, sacrifice, love and faithful service.

The cultural presentation by the Dagaaba Sisters therefore became more than a moment of celebration. It was a bridge between culture and consecrated life, reminding everyone that our cultural heritage can beautifully accompany and enrich the celebration of vocation and service.

As Sr. Juliana marks this significant milestone, the joy of the Dagaaba Sisters echoes a powerful message of gratitude: a life given in service is a life worth celebrating.

May the remaining years of Sr. Juliana’s consecrated journey continue to bear abundant fruit for the Church and for all those whose lives she touches.
