Consecrated Women: Guiding Lights for the Youth

As the West Africa Youth Day celebration commences Monday,
September 7 and runs until Friday, September 11, in Ghana at Achimota School, Accra, the Church turns its gaze toward the vital role of Consecrated Women in shaping the future of our youth.

Sisters, through their witness of prayer, service, and teaching, stand as living examples of faith in action. Their presence in schools, parishes, and communities nurtures young hearts, offering guidance rooted in compassion, discipline, and the Gospel.

Consecrated Women are not only mentors but also companions on the journey of discernment. They help young people discover their gifts, cultivate resilience, and embrace values that prepare them to be leaders of integrity in society. Their quiet strength and visible dedication remind us that holiness is possible in everyday life.

A Call to the Youth of West Africa
This celebration is more than an event; it is a summons to courage and responsibility. To the youth of our sub-region:Embrace service — Your talents are needed to uplift families, communities, and nations.Seek wisdom — Let education, faith, and dialogue shape your choices.Build unity — In a region rich with diversity, your generation can be the bridge of peace and collaboration. The Church believes in you. Your energy, creativity, and hope are the seeds of tomorrow’s renewal.

A Call to Vocation
In the midst of this celebration, the Spirit whispers a deeper invitation: the call to religious life. Some among you are being stirred to follow Christ more radically — to become priests, Sisters, or Brothers who dedicate their lives to prayer and service. Do not be afraid of this call. Vocations are not a loss but a gift, a way of multiplying love in a world that hungers for meaning.Consecrated life is a bold “yes” to God, echoing Mary’s fiat and the courage of countless saints. If you feel the stirrings of this call, seek guidance, pray deeply, and trust that the Lord who calls will also sustain you.

The West Africa Youth Day is a celebration of faith, culture, and youthful energy. It is also a reminder that the Church thrives when her youth rise to the challenge of service, unity, and vocation. May this week be a time of inspiration, renewal, and joyful commitment to Christ.
