HHCJ Sisters Inspire Catholic Youth at West Africa Youth Days in Accra

Thousands of Catholic youth from 16 countries in West Africa gathered in Accra from September 7 to 11, 2026, for the first West Africa Youth Days. During this five-day event of prayer and togetherness, the Sisters of the Handmaids of the Holy Child Jesus (HHCJ) brought joy and guidance to the youth, especially during the special Vocations Day held on Thursday, September 10.

During the Vocations Day, the HHCJ Sisters welcomed young pilgrims who wanted to learn more about serving God. Wearing bright smiles, the Sisters set up a special meeting area where they talked with young people, shared their personal stories, gave out booklets, and prayed with many of the delegates.

“Vocation is a gift from God. Seeing so many happy young people seeking God’s path brings so much hope to our Church in West Africa,” said one of the HHCJ Sisters.

Throughout the day, the Handmaids showed great warmth and care. They listened to young women who were thinking about becoming Catholic nuns and gave them advice on how to follow God’s call. They also joined in group discussions, sang songs, and encouraged the young people to spread peace in their home countries.

As the five-day gathering ended on September 11, the presence of the Handmaids showed everyone the true meaning of their motto, “Love and Service,” leaving a lasting mark on the hearts of the youth as they travel back home.
