Five Sisters of the Mary Mother of the Church (SMMC) are among participants from 22 Female Religious Congregations across Ghana currently taking part in an intensive media training programme organised by the Catholic Sister Communicators Network – Ghana (CASCON-GH).
The five-day workshop, which began on July 29, 2026 at the Centre for Spiritual Renewal in Kumasi, aims to equip Catholic sisters with practical media and communication skills so they can more effectively share the stories of their ministries and apostolate with the wider public.

Facilitators for the sessions include experienced media professionals such as Mr. Robert Dela Mawuenyegah, the Executive Director of Global NewsWatch Media and Communications; Mr. Damian Avevor, Supervising Editor of Newwatchgh.com; Mr. Eric Coco Mawuenyegah, a Website Developer, Ms. Jennifer Kwakyewaa Akuamoah, a Media and Communications specialist; Mr. Derrick Atitsogbui, of Dex Media-Gh, Mr. John Kyei.
Participants are receiving hands-on training in website management and ethics, interviewing techniques, storytelling, photography, and videography.
In a significant show of support, each participating Congregation was presented with a Canon camera, while every Sister received a media jacket to aid their fieldwork.

Representing the SMMC at the training were Sr. Gifty Anastasia Blewu, Sr. Agnes Nyatsoe, Sr. Bridget Kator, Sr. Josephine Immaculate Deh and Sr. Angela Amoatwo .
The programme runs until August 2 2026. Organisers hope the skills acquired will strengthen the visibility of the sisters’ work in education, healthcare, pastoral care, and social outreach throughout Ghana and beyond.
By empowering religious women to tell their own stories with professionalism and creativity, CASCON-GH is helping ensure that the vital contributions of Catholic sisters continue to inspire and inform the faithful and the general public.
