SSL Sisters Behind the Shutter

The Catholic Sister Communicators Network, Ghana organised a three-day workshop on Media and Communications for its members from July 29 to August 2, 2026 and the Sisters of St. Louis ( SSL ) were not left out.

The Institute of the Sisters of St. Louis was actively represented by Srs. Joan Dzifa Bosro, Adelaide Bemah Saahene and Clara Adwoa Konadu.

The Sisters were taken through various aspects of communication including website management, interview techniques, photography, storytelling and videography.

The three Sisters of St. Louis were part of the reporting group for the workshop and as part of their duties, they made recordings of the day’s activities through articles and pictures.

The importance of managing and maintaining a website was emphasised by Mr. Eric Coco Mawuenyegah, the facilitator for that session.

During the session, cameras were donated to each Congregation present by the Conrad Hilton foundation presented on their behalf by the executives of the Catholic sister Communicators Network – Ghana.

Mr. Derrick Attisogbui was patient enough to teach the Sisters about how to assemble and disassemble a camera.

He also taught them the features of the camera, how to use it to take pictures and videos and the ways in which the pictures and videos could be edited.

It was a great time to learn as sisters took turns taking various photographs with their cameras and phones.

One interesting part of the workshop was the group project. Sisters were put into four groups and tasked to write an article on a given topic and to make a full production of an interview based on their topic.

The various groups brought their A-game as they produced excellent interviews and articles.

Each St. Louis Sister played a key role in their group project as secretary, interviewee, or photographers.

Ms. Jennifer Kwakyewaa Akuamoah gave an interesting presentation on story writing and interviewing skills.

The Sisters learnt that as communicators, they must be authentic in the stories they wrote and share and should always prepare with the end of their story in mind.

The knowledge in digital media the SSL Sisters have acquired at this time is a step in the right direction as it will help us to tell their story to the world through videos and photos.

In this digital age the skills acquired will help us to connect and interact with young people and those we might not be able to meet physically.

Everybody loves the sound of the camera because it captures beautiful moments and these moments ought to be preserved. So, the next time you hear the shutter of the camera, just make a nice pose because a St. Louis Sister Communicator might be nearby.
