Mr. Amewode Elikplim, a benevolent alumnus, has donated a set of modern musical instruments to his alma mater, Keta Roman Catholic (RC) Mixed Basic School in the Catholic Diocese of Keta-Akatsi, to strengthen and sustain the school’s recently revived brass band.

The presentation took place on the school premises on Tuesday, June 23, 2026.

The school’s brass band was revived through the initiative of Mr. Thomas Agbemava and Hon. Amenyo Kwasiga, a former Assemblyman for Kedzikope.

Both are old pupils of the school, serving as members of staff at the time of the revival.

Mr. Jonathan Gbedze, also a member of staff, supported them in training the pupils with only three musical instruments until Mr. Amewode came to their aid with the donation.

In her welcome address, the Head Teacher, Madam Cynthia Vuvor, expressed her joy and gratitude to Mr. Amewode for his love and commitment to the school.

She said the musical instruments would go a long way in helping the school restore its past glory.

She also commended the teachers who took the initiative to revive the band despite limited resources.

A Joyous Presentation
The atmosphere at the school was filled with excitement as management, staff, and students gathered to witness the presentation.

The donation was officially received on behalf of the school by Rev. Fr. Elikem Akakpo, Chaplain of Keta RC Schools; the Head Teacher, Madam Cynthia Vuvor; the School Management Committee (SMC) Chairman, Mr. Kugbe-ne Geoffrey; and the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) Chairman, Rev. Adzia Wisdom.

In his remarks, Mr. Amewode encouraged all old students to support the school band.

According to him, the knowledge he acquired as a young boy at Keta RC is what provides his livelihood today, and his desire is to pass that knowledge on to the children.

“The only thing I want to do is to add value to the children,” he said.
Expression of Gratitude
Expressing her profound appreciation, Madam Cynthia Vuvor commended Mr. Elikplim for remembering his roots and investing in the holistic development of the pupils.

She noted that music plays a vital role in the pupils’ co-curricular development and assured the donor that the instruments would be well maintained for the benefit of future generations. She added that the donation was timely as the Church prepares to climax the 135th anniversary celebrations of the Catholic Mission in Keta.

The highlight of the brief ceremony was an energetic performance by the school’s newly formed band.

Putting the new instruments to immediate use, the pupils thrilled the gathering by skillfully playing and singing a repertoire of newly learned songs.

The crisp sounds of the new trumpets, combined with the rhythmic beats of the band, filled the atmosphere with joy, demonstrating that the school’s musical talent is well on its way to a full resurgence.
“Seeing the children play with such passion justifies this gesture. Music fosters discipline and teamwork, and I am glad to help revive this legacy,” Mr. Elikplim remarked.
With the school leadership, the PTA, and the SMC united in their appreciation, the donation marks a significant milestone in Keta RC Mixed Basic School’s journey to reclaim its place as a centre of youthful musical excellence.
