Conrad Hilton Foundation Meets Sister Communicators Leadership in Accra

The leadership of the Catholic Sister Communicators Network-Ghana (CASCON-GH) has held a meeting with its sponsors, Conrad Hilton Foundation at Madina , Accra in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana on June 20, 2025 to discuss the second ohase of Media Empowerment Project.

The meeting held in the Conference room of the Conference of Major Superiors of Religious -Ghana (CMSR-Gh) at the Queen of Peace Parish, Madina, marked the formal discussions leading into the presentation of the outcome of the first phase of the $25,000 project which started from September 2023 and ended in February 2025 and the implementation of the second phase which started from March this year.

The highlight of the meeting was a comprehensive presentation by Sr. Cecilia Afari, SMMC, the CASCON-GH Project Coordinator who outlined the achievements of the first phase of the project, which included foundational training in media and communication skills for 20 Female Religious Sisters for advocacy campaigns, and the visibility of Sisters’ social ministries in Ghana.

According to Sr. Cecilia, the first phase of the Project which aimed at establishing a strong foundation for media and social communications of Female Religious in Ghana was effectively implemented and ended successfully in February, 2025.

“The objectives of the First Phase of the Project were to train 20 Sister Communicators from ten Women Congregations, create a functional website for publishing news stories and to register a Network for Catholic Sister Communicators in Ghana,” she said, announcing that “all the three objectives have been successfully implemented or achieved.”

She unveiled the roadmap for the second phase of the project which began in March 2025 would span a period of three years and promised a broader impact.

It will focus on intensive training for 20 current CASCON-GH members to deepen their expertise in strategic communication and digital media; Basic training for 60 new members, grouped in batches of 20, from various Female Religious Congregations in Ghana; Establishment of an office for the CASCON-GH Network, to enhance coordination, visibility, and sustainability of the project.

Conrad Hilton Foundation awarded, CASCON-GH $150,000 funds to undertake the second phase of the project in 36 months which ends in March 2028.

The initiative reflects Conrad Hilton Foundation’s ongoing commitment to equipping Catholic Sisters with the tools and skills necessary to tell their stories, share their mission, and effectively engage with the public and the media.

In her conclusion, Sr. Cecilia emphasised that “this second phase is not just a continuation, but an expansion. It is a sign of growth, a sign of deeper collaboration, and a step toward ensuring that Catholic Sisters in Ghana can confidently speak, write, and represent the work of the Church in the modern communication landscape.”

Nana SangBender, Programme Officer, Catholic Sisters Initiative Africa, Conrad Hilton Foundation and the Project Coordinator for Ghana, commended the strides made by CASCON-GH.

She reaffirmed their support for the vision of empowering Catholic Sisters through communication.

“I’m so much impressed about the progress you have made so far”, she revealed.

Angelique Mutombo, a representative of Hilton Foundation and the overseer of the Hilton Projects, commended the works of the Project Coordinator, Ghana and the CASCON-GH Executives.

She expressed her hope that the project would continue to amplify the voices of Sisters, especially in rural and underserved communities.

She advised that Sister Communicators in Ghana should collaborate with other Sister Communicators Network in other countries to enhance their work.

Present at the meeting were Sr. Lucy Hometowu, SMMC, Superior General and Board Member; Sr. Christina Doggu, HHCJ, Provincial Superior, a Board Member and a CASCON-GH Contact Person for CMSR-GH, Sr. Theodora Adzayawo, SMMC, the Executive Secretary for CMSR-GH; and Sr. Mirabel Sena Adzomani, SIJ.

The rest were Sr. Emmanuella Dakurah, HHCJ, the President of CASCON-GH, Sr. Agnes Mercy Nyatsoe, SMMC, the Vice President of CASCON-GH, Sr. Sylvie Lum Cho, MSHR, the Secretary of CASCON-GH; Sr. Gifty Anastasia Blewu, SMMC, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of CASCON-GH, and Sr. Rebecca Asante, SVI, the Finance Secretary.

The meeting concluded with prayers and a renewed sense of purpose among all participants, as they look forward to the successful implementation of the next chapter in the journey of CASCON-GH.
