Over forty Sister Communicators in Ghana have received training on media ethics and responsibility during a virtual meeting held on May 18, 2026. The session brought together both new and experienced members of the Catholic Sister Communicators Network-Ghana (CASCON).

Facilitating the session, Mr. Benjamin Alpha Aidoo, a Legal Practitioner and Communications Expert, explained that media ethics are the moral principles and standards that guide the conduct of media practitioners.

He outlined key pillars essential to effective and responsible communication, stressing that truth and accuracy must remain the hallmark of all media work.

He urged participants to rigorously verify information before publication in order to prevent the spread of misinformation.

Participants were also encouraged to minimize harm by showing respect to subjects and audiences, particularly when dealing with vulnerable individuals. Emphasis was placed on the need for sensitivity and professionalism in all forms of communication.

Mr. Aidoo further highlighted the importance of independent journalism, noting that reports must be free from conflicts of interest and undue corporate influence to ensure fairness and credibility. He added that media content should serve the public interest, uphold democratic values, and promote moral standards in society.

In his concluding remarks, he referenced provisions in Ghana’s Constitution that guarantee media freedom and independence, stressing that such freedoms come with responsibility.

He called on Sister Communicators to remain accountable and transparent in their work by acknowledging errors, issuing prompt corrections, and being open about their sources and processes.

The virtual training funded by the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation, a U.S.A charitable foundation established in 1944 by the hotel entrepreneur, forms part of ongoing efforts to equip Sister Communicators with the skills needed to effectively carry out their mission in the media space.
