The Positive Encounters Initiative (PEI), a mentorship and empowerment programme for young women founded by Sr. Dr. Evelyn Otchere-Boateng, SIJ, was officially launched at the University of Cape Coast (UCC) on Saturday, May 24, 2026.

The initiative aims to create hope, resilience, and inclusivity among young women facing life’s challenges.

The launch ceremony, held at the Conference Room of the Our Lady Seat of Wisdom Catholic Church, UCC, coincided with Pentecost Sunday and the birthday celebration of the founder.

It attracted clergy, religious, professionals, mentors, students, and lay faithful who gathered to support the vision of empowering young women through mentorship, emotional support, counselling, guidance, and educational assistance.

The initiative began with about fifteen mentees and nearly ten spiritual directors, counsellors, and mentors committed to accompanying the young women on their personal and academic journeys.

A symbolic candle-lighting ceremony highlighted the event. The Paschal Candle was first lit, followed by smaller candles placed in a vase and lit from it, symbolising Christ as the source of light and inspiration for the initiative and its participants.

Addressing participants, Sr. Dr. Evelyn Otchere-Boateng described PEI as a safe and nurturing platform designed to help young women rediscover hope, build confidence, and develop into purpose-driven individuals capable of making a positive impact on society.

Some mentees shared emotional personal experiences during the programme and were encouraged by speakers and mentors not to lose hope despite the difficulties they face in life.

The programme was chaired by Dr. Esther Boham and attended by distinguished guests, including Fr. Dr. Joseph Kwame Blay, Fr. Mark Kwenin, Chaplain of Our Lady Seat of Wisdom Catholic Church, UCC, Dr. Mrs. Nyamah, the Superior General of the Society of the Infant Jesus, members of the Society of the Infant Jesus, and several lay faithful.

Organisers expressed optimism that the initiative would continue to provide healing, encouragement, growth, and support for many young women across different communities and generations.

They also noted that the program embraces inclusivity by welcoming mentees from different religious backgrounds, including Muslims, in an effort to counter religious discrimination and promote unity.
