In a beautiful testament to faith and spiritual renewal, the Sacred Heart Devotion at Our Lady of Apostles, (OLA) Senior High School in Ho has been powerfully resuscitated, crowning in a historic initiation ceremony of 23 new members and 16 non-Catholic students received as ‘Friends of the Confraternity.

OLA Senior High School is a Catholic Girls’ institution providing quality and holistic education for academic, industrial and moral excellence. It envisions to equip all learners through holistic education with relevant knowledge, skills and positive attitude to do critical objective analysis of the ever-changing environment, in the light of their religious formation and to take the most appropriate decision.

For some time, the once vibrant Sacred Heart Confraternity on campus had fallen dormant due to some peculiar challenges. While a handful of passionate students-both existing members from their home parishes and curious newcomers eager to devote themselves to the Heart of Jesus-continued to meet, they found themselves adrift. Without instructional materials, devotional prayers, or deep knowledge of the Confraternity, their meetings lacked structure.

Posted to OLA Senior High School for her national service, and also a past student of the school, Sister Josephine Immaculate Deh, member of the Institute of the Sisters of Mary Mother of the Church, SMMC quickly recognized the spiritual hunger on campus and the urgent need to revive the devotion. Armed with a vision, she consulted the Acting Chaplain, who enthusiastically greenlit her plan.

Sister Josephine immediately set to work reorganizing the students and instilling in them a deep understanding of the Sacred Heart. She wasn’t alone in this mission. The revival quickly became a collaborative triumph, supported by Sr. Agnes Anthony Amevor, SMMC a dedicated Sacred Heart devotee who co-steered the formation.

Rev Fr. Eli Pasah, the Associate Priest of the Sacred Heart Cathedral in Ho also generously carved out time to visit and teach the students during their intense preparation phase.

The result of their collective efforts bore fruit on Sunday, June 7, 2026, coinciding with the solemn Feast of Corpus Christi. After weeks of rigorous catechism and spiritual preparation, 40 students stood ready to dedicate themselves which comprise of one already initiated from their home parish, twenty-three fully initiated into the Confraternity and sixteen non-Catholic students received as “Friends of the Confraternity. The initiation in June was timely because June is dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

The solemn Holy Mass in which the students were officially initiated into the Sacred Heart of Jesus Confraternity, was officiated by Rev Fr. John Blewusi, a visiting priest from the Diocese of Keta-Akatsi who officially conducted the initiation and concelebrated by the school’s Chaplain Rev Fr. Richard Agnes Teku.

The revived Confraternity reflects a beautiful blend of faith, breaking down barriers on campus. What was once a fading ember on the OLA campus is now a vibrant, 40-member strong flame. Thanks to the dedication of the SMMC Sisters and supporting clergy, these young students now have the knowledge, the prayers, and the community to keep the fire of the Sacred Heart burning brightly for years to come.

At the Mass were the Headmistress, Madam Benedicta Agbezudor; Madam Solace Juliana Dzeble Adjah, the Assistant Headmistress (Administration), Mr. Israel Dogah, the Assistant Headmaster (Academics), Madam Honorine Klu, the Assistant Headmistress (Domestic) together with some members of the staff of the school.

OLA Senior High School is under the spiritual oversight of the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Ho.
