25th August is the memorial of King St. Louis IX, patron of the Sisters of St. Louis ( SSL). This is a very special day for the Sisters of St. Louis worldwide, as their community year ends. For the Sisters of St. Louis in the Ghana Region, it is a joyful day to fraternise with one another.
This year’s St. Louis Day celebration was held in the auditorium of the St. Louis Jubilee School in Oduom, Ashanti Region, Ghana.
The celebration began with the Mass presided over by Rev. Fr, Eric Ankapong, the Chaplain of the St. Louis SHS at Oduom. It was attended by the Sisters of St. Louis in the Ghana Region and their Associates. In his homily. Fr. Eric admonished the sisters to imitate the life of St. Louis.
He said that St. Louis was a generous and saintly man who attended Mass daily and went for confession frequently. St. Louis was a lover of the poor who always took care of them.
After the homily, the Sisters of St. Louis Associates renewed their vows to take up various roles in their communities and churches.
During the Mass, prayers were offered for more vocations for the Sisters of St. Louis in Ghana, deceased Sisters in the Region, as well as family and friends.
Before the Mass was over , there was a handing-over ceremony where the old leadership team handed over to the new Leaders.
Sr. Brigid Andoh SSL, the outgoing Regional Leader, thanked the Sisters in the Region for their support during her tenure as the leader of the Region.
Sr. Benedicta Boakye Yiadom, the current leader, thanked the Sisters for the trust they have put in the new team for the next four years and asked for their prayers and support.
The day was filled with fun as the sisters thanked the Lord for bringing them to the end of the community year amid singing and dancing, and offered themselves to the Lord for the new community year.
