Sr. Maria Gabriella Nada Nadine Yankey, HDR, a member of the Handmaids of the Divine Redeemer (HDR) of Accra, an Indigenous Catholic Women Religious Congregation based in Ghana bagged first class at the recent 21st Congregation and graduation ceremony at the African University College of Communication (AUCC) in Accra.
The ceremony, held on Saturday , November 23, 2024 was under the theme: “Leadership and Integrity In Nation Building.”
Sr. Yankey was among 404 students, including 258 undergraduates, 134 postgraduates, and 12 certificate recipients who graduated.
Currently working in the Diocese of Sekondi-Takoradi as the Bishop’s secretary, she was among the five students who achieved First Class Honours in Bachelor of Arts in Development Communication Studies.
With this feat, she has made her congregation, the HDR Sisters proud.
The HDR was founded by the late Bishop Joseph Oliver Bowers, Divine Word Missionary, (SVD) in 1957 as Diocesan Religious Congregation whose charism is educating women, care for the sick, poor, aged, orphans, and undertake ministerial works.
HDR Sisters render services in the Archdiocese of Accra, Kumasi, Diocese of Koforidua, Sekondi-Takoradi, Donkorkrom Vicariate, Oshkosh and New York in the United States of America.
At the graduation ceremony, Prof. Isaac Abeku Blankson, AUCC President, urged graduates to uphold the value of integrity and diligence and remain connected to the university as ambassadors.
Justice Nana Barima Yaw Kodie Oppong, who was the keynote speaker, highlighted the need for proactive leadership, particularly among women, to address gender gaps in various professions.
AUCC is a private tertiary institution initially established in 2002 as the African Institute of Journalism and Communication (AIJC).
AUCC, acknowledging the rising importance of communication and media, established the first School of Journalism and Communication Studies in Africa while promoting African cultural values, community service, ethics, and integrity to help them thrive in today’s dynamic societal and business environments.
