Today’s readings focus on themes of persecution, faith, and the transformative power of God’s grace. The first reading, from Jeremiah 20:10-13, portrays the prophet Jeremiah facing betrayal and threats from those around him. Despite the fear and anguish, Jeremiah places his trust in God, who delivers the righteous from harm. This passage reminds us that even in moments of despair, God’s grace sustains and protects us.

The Gospel reading, from John 10:31-42, recounts a confrontation between Jesus and those accusing Him of blasphemy for claiming to be the Son of God. Jesus challenges their disbelief, urging them to recognize His works as evidence of His divine mission. This passage highlights how rejecting God’s truth and grace can lead to spiritual blindness, while faith opens the door to understanding and transformation.

Sr. Gifty Anastasia Blewu, SMMC

Reflecting on these readings, the theme “blasphemy blocks grace” becomes clear. When we reject God’s presence and works in our lives, we create barriers to receiving His grace. However, like Jeremiah and Jesus, we are called to remain steadfast in faith, trusting that God’s grace will guide and strengthen us, even in the face of opposition. This is a powerful reminder to embrace God’s truth with humility and openness.
