In a spirit of reverence and gratitude, the Sisters of Mary Mother of the Church (SMMC) have paid a courtesy visit to the Bishop Emeritus of Ho, the Most Rev. Francis Anani Kofi Lodonu at his residence in Bame on June 6, 2025.
The visit formed part of the Sisters’ spiritual renewal activities and served as an opportunity to reconnect with one of the pillars of the Catholic Church in the Volta Region.
Led by Sr. Lucy Hometowu, SMMC, the Superior General, the SMMC delegation was warmly welcomed by Bishop Lodonu, and his household who expressed joy at the Sisters’ presence and praised their continued commitment to the Church’s mission of service, education, and evangelization.
During the visit, the Sisters shared updates on their various apostolates, including healthcare, education, and pastoral work, especially their recent efforts in promoting safeguarding within communities and parishes.
Bishop Lodonu, known for his deep pastoral care and wisdom, encouraged the Sisters to remain steadfast in their vocation and continue being witnesses of Christ’s compassion in today’s complex world.
“The Church needs your presence now more than ever,” he said, urging them to “Continue to be the light and salt in every corner you are sent to. Do not forget to pray. The Lord is always with you.”

The visit concluded with a moment of prayer and blessing from the Bishop, who prayed for the growth of the congregation and the grace of perseverance for each Sister.
It was a touching moment of intergenerational solidarity between a respected elder of the Church and a vibrant religious community.
The SMMC Sisters expressed their appreciation for Bishop Lodonu’s warm hospitality and enduring fatherly support over the years.
The encounter served not only as a gesture of respect but also as a renewal of the sisters’ sense of mission within the local Church.
