The Provincial Vicar of the Salesians of Don Bosco (SDB) for the St. Joseph Province (Africa Occidental South, AOS), Rev. Fr. Agbangba Pidewa Sylvian, has reaffirmed that Consecrated Life, particularly celibacy, is not a call to sterility but to a higher form of fruitfulness.
Speaking during the Profession of Perpetual Vows for Rev. Bros. Michael Kwadwo Brafo and Enoch Kwaku Yeboah at Mary Help of Christians Parish at Odumase in the Sunyani Diocese on August 10, 2025, Fr. Agbangba emphasised that those in Consecrated Life might not have biological children, yet they bear many spiritual children making them truly fertile in the service of God’s people.
Fr. Agbangba, who was the main celebrant and received the vows of the two brothers, centred his homily on three key words: Call, Faithfulness, and Fruitfulness.
He explained that God’s call is not made through public announcements or tenders but through a gentle whisper in the heart.
“We did not choose God; He chose us,” he reminded, adding that each person’s vocation journey is unique, often unfolding through prayer and various life experiences.
On faithfulness, the Provincial Vicar noted that it was not about achieving perfection but about daily perseverance.
He encouraged the brothers to remain steadfast in their commitment to God and to their religious community, even during challenging moments.
Addressing fruitfulness, Fr. Agbangba said consecrated life is not a pursuit of comfort but a radical commitment to the salvation of souls.
“Consecrated life is not outdated or a loss; it is a revolutionary call lived in today’s world in the opposite direction of materialism—choosing poverty over wealth,” he stated.
He concluded by urging the brothers to be deeply rooted in Christ so that their lives may bear lasting spiritual fruit in the Church and society.
The event drew parishioners, family members, and friends who gathered to witness the solemn moment and celebrate the lifelong commitment of the two Salesians to their religious vocation.
