On June 19, 2025, Talitha Kum Ghana welcomed a high-level delegation from the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation to Ghana’s Kumasi for a supervisory visit.
It was aimed at evaluating the progress of anti-human trafficking initiatives supported by the Foundation.
The visiting team were Sr. Theodora Adzayawo, SMMC, Executive Secretary of the Conference of Major Superiors of Religious, Ghana; *Angelique Mutombo, Senior Programme Officer* and Nana SangBender, Programme Officer for Catholic Sisters Initiative Africa.
The visit underscored the Foundation’s commitment to supporting grassroots efforts in the fight against human trafficking in Ghana.
During the visit, the delegation received a detailed progress report from *Sr. Olivia Umoh, of the Daughters of Charity (DC), who is the National Coordinator of ConPAHT Talitha Kum Ghana*
Sr. Olivia outlined the network’s significant achievements in public awareness campaigns, victim rescue and reintegration, and multi-stakeholder collaboration across the country.
A key stop on the itinerary was the St. Louise de Marillac Vocational Training Centre at Appiadu in Kumasi, where the Foundation funds vocational programmes for individuals at risk of trafficking.
At the Centre, the representatives awarded National Vocational Training Institute (NVTI) certificates to recent graduates, an important milestone on the path toward economic self-reliance and sustainable development.
The event also connected network members nationwide through a virtual gathering, allowing them to share field experiences and reaffirm their dedication to eradicating human trafficking in all its forms.
Expressing heartfelt appreciation, Sr. Olivia thanked the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation for its steadfast support and called for continued collaboration to extend services to more vulnerable children, youth, and women throughout Ghana.
Talitha Kum is an international network of Catholic religious sisters working to combat human trafficking.
The name, meaning “Little girl, arise” in Aramaic, is taken from the Gospel of Mark where Jesus uses the phrase to revive a young girl.
Founded in 2009 by the International Union of Superiors General, Talitha Kum is active in nearly 90 countries through 60 local networks including Ghana.
Talitha Kum’s primary goal is to end human trafficking and exploitation. They achieve this through prevention, protection, social reintegration, and rehabilitation of survivors, as well as advocacy and tackling the root causes of trafficking.
The organization operates as a network of Catholic sisters and allies, with a focus on grassroots engagement and community-centered approaches.
They provide care, healing, empowerment, and restoration to victims and survivors of trafficking.
