It was a joyful day on August 25, 2025 when eight temporary professed Sisters renewed their vows of chastity, poverty and obedience in the Institute of the Sisters of Mary Mother of the Church in the Ho Diocese.
Rev. Fr. Abraham Korsi Dzibitor, SVD, who celebrated the solemn Holy Mass asked the Sisters to do away with things of this world that fatten them.
He reminded them that Salvation, saying that “suffering and discipline purifies us.”
Fr. Dzibitor encouraged the Sisters not to give up, because “When we see Jesus on the cross, we realise that we are doing very little for him.”
After the Homily, the Sisters renewed their vows in the hands of Sr. Lucy Hometwu, SMMC the Superior General of the Institute.
The Renewal of Vows Ceremony was preceded by a day’s workshop on Discernment for the Temporary Professed Sisters, facilitated by Fr. Dzibitor.
In his talk on Discernment, he defined discernment as a process and explained that “At every moment of our life, there is something we need to discern about.”
“We can never stop discerning or say that we have arrived at where we want to be so we do not need to discern anymore.
Quoting St Ignatius of Loyola, he explained Discernment as an instrument of struggle in order to know the Lord and follow him more closely.
“Of all the Saints in the Catholic Church, the only one who spoke extensively about discernment is St Ignatius of Loyola,” he stated.
He noted that “In our world today, Religious are called to be active, vigilant, innovative, hardworking, searching for new answers and finding new paths”
Adding , he said “Discernment is critical before taking any action.”
The 15 Temporary Sisters who took part in the workshop were very glad and appreciative of Fr. Dzibitor for his insightful input on the topic, and to the Superior General and Council for the opportunity given to 8 of them to renew their vows.
The SVD Priest who also works as an Assistant Director at the Orthopedic Training Center, Nsawam was very happy when the children from Xorladi Centre for Vulnerable children, joined the Sisters for Holy Mass and were visibly happy because a Sister who works with them was also renewing her vows.
