On Saturday, July 5 2025, Sr. Vivian Addo, SSPs, marks a milestone in her religious journey of faith as a Consecrated Woman.
In an exclusive interview with Sister Communicator Gifty Anastasia Blewu, SMMC she had this to share about her life and vocation story:
“My name is Sr. Vivian Ama Addo, SSpS, from New Ningo in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana and belong to Ghana Province of the Sisters Servants of the Holy Spirit Congregation.
I grew up with my grandmother in a family of five. I have two female siblings from a different mother, we are connected and in touch with each other.
My vocation story started when I was eight years old. I was inspired by a St. Louis Sister named Sr. Brigid Andoh SSL, who was then based in my Parish St. Kizito Catholic Church at Nima. I was touched by her simplicity and dedication to work especially working with the young children, how she took time to care for us and I told her “I want to be like you”.
After completing Junior High School (JHS), I started aspiring with her congregation that is Sisters of St. Louis until one day there was a publication of vocation retreat for SSpS in my Parish and it was the first time for me to hear about another congregation.
I was curious to know and learn more about my new found congregation so I contacted the sacristan who made the announcement and informed him about my desire to attend the retreat which was to be held in Koforidua.
I contacted the number on the brochure to book for the retreat and the Sr. Theresa welcomed me with an open arm, I did not only enjoy the retreat but the wonderful Sisters that satisfied my quest to know more about the congregation.
I continued to aspire with both congregations, to know where I can truly be myself, feel belong and freely exhibit my God-given talent as I serve and work.
I got admission into SHS to be precise Catholic Social Advance where I met two SSpS sisters that is Sr. Magdalene Karo and Sr. Maciana from Paraguay who continued to journey with me.
After some time, I lost the interest in my vocation but a single call from a Sister who was a facilitator at one of the retreats I attended changed everything, she invited me to St. Mary’s community and we had a chat and the little spark from her candle, lit mine that was when I felt that I was losing something precious and that very year I applied and I entered to be formed in 2013 and professed my first vows in 2016.
I was inspired by Sr Maciana and Sr Magdalene Karo leaving their home land and loved ones behind to work in another country and still call it their home, It really amazed me.
I couldn’t help myself than to ask questions upon questions. Finally, I concluded saying “if the Sisters also had people, they could minister to yet chose to leave them behind to come to my country to minister to us then I would also like to go to their country and mister there”, that was how I chose my vocation.
I was offered Education course at St. Francis College of education at Hohoe. I chose education because I had the desire to be with the little ones and to help them understand and value life by guiding them to make the right decision as they grow up especially among deprived communities that they may learn to help themselves and not only depending on others especially the missionaries.
I pursued B. ED in education to enhance my mission as a teacher to educate and promote holistic Christian education in all its forms.
I am passionate about inspiring young minds and fostering a love for learning. when I am not in the classroom, you can find me lost in the world of reading that ignites my soul. I am also an avid cook, experimenting with recipes and flavours that bring people together.
My values:
Respect: I believe in treating others with kindness, empathy and understanding.
Honesty: I’m committed to being truthful and authentic in all interactions.
Personality: I am a very lively, jovial and sociable person who can easily connect with others. I love building meaningful relationships and making a positive impact on those around me and Isaiah 49:16 is my watch word. ”
You’re Invited to witness a sacred moment of love, commitment, and divine calling of my final Profession of Vows on Saturday, July 5, 2025 at St. Kizito Catholic Church, Nima at 9:00 am.
The theme of the celebration is “Carved in the palm of God.”
Come share in the grace of this beautiful “yes” —
a lifelong vow, a soul surrendered, a heart set ablaze for Christ.
If you hear his voice, harden not your hearts.
