Kessben TV, FM Station in Kumasi Host Religious Sister Communicators

As part of their ongoing media training at the Centre for Spiritual Renewal in Kumasi, some Religious Women of the Catholic Church in Ghana had the rare opportunity of touring the studios of Kessben Television and FM Station.

The May 10, 2024 tour was to practicalise some of the things they had been taught and learnt at the training facilitated by Global Newswatch Media and Communications.

The Sisters were taken through processes and channels of operation in a TV studio the usage of the different types of cameras, studio set ups, running of interviews and shows.

They were also taken to the functions of the control room for TV programmes directed by Kessben.

As part of the tour, the Sisters learnt that Kessben TV and Radio use both Twi and English to satisfy the desire and needs of the target audience.

The Sisters were also shown the server room where the Internet works or where power is supplied to the Internet to be able to work effectively.

They also visited the radio room meant for only radio programmes during which Sisters had the privileged to use some of the gadgets as a practical experience which the Sisters described as wonderful and educative.

Led by Sr. Cecilia Afari, SMMC, the Media Project Coordinator, the Sisters collectively expressed appreciation for they visit which had enabled them to practicalise what communication was all about.

Joining the visit were Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Effah, Director of Communications of the catholic Archdiocese of Kumasi and his team as well as Damian Avevor, Robert Dela Mawuenyegah and Bless Gadese, facilitators of the media training from Global Newswatch Media and Communications, managers of newswatchgh.com, an online media portal for Religious and Social Development News.

The training which started on Monday, May 6 ends on Tuesday, May 14, 2024. It is being organised by the Conference of Major Superiors of Religious-Ghana (CMSRG) in collaboration with Conrad Hilton Foundation and Sisters of Mary Mother of the Church.

The core objectives of the media training of the Religious women are to focus on promoting effective Communication of Sister Communicators in Women Religious Congregations in Ghana, developing the writing skills of the Religious to tell their own stories on projects and establishing a continuous framework to update their knowledge in media and communications activities.

The training is being attended by Sister Communicators from some Indigenous Congregations in Ghana – Sisters of Mary Mother of the Church (SMMC), Sisters of the Incarnate Word (SVI), Handmaids of the Holy Child Jesus (HHCJ), Daughters of the Most Holy Trinity (FST) and Sisters of Mary Immaculate (SMI). The others are, Missionary Sisters of Holy Rosary (MSHR), Society of Infant Jesus (SIJ), Notre Dame de l’Eglise (NDE), Sisters of St Louis (SSL) and Handmaids of the Divine Redeemer (HDR).
