Learners of Donkorkrom Holy Rosary School Called to Emulate Mary Magdalene’s Love for Jesus

Rev. Fr. Vincent Amuzu, Asafo, SVD, Secretary to the Bishop and Assisting Priest at the St. Francis Xavier Cathedral, Donkorkrom, has urged learners of the Holy Rosary School at Asikasu, in the Kwahu Afram Plains North, Eastern Region of Ghana, to develop a single-minded love for Jesus, after the example of Mary Magdalene, to gain a reward.

He made this known in a homily during the July 22, 2025, Holy Mass to usher in the activities of Career Day and graduation ceremonies of the KG 2, Primary 6, and JHS 3 learners. It was also the end-of-term Mass for the school.

Reflecting on the person of Mary Magdalene (John 20:1-2, 11-18), whose Feast Day it was, Fr. Asafo affirmed that Mary had an unflinching love for Jesus, as revealed in the four Gospels: She was among the women who had followed Jesus during his earthly ministry, providing for him out of her means.

He further avowed Mary Magdalen for remaining at the foot of the Cross with Mary, the Mother of Jesus, when every other disciple had deserted him, among other favours he did to show his love for Jesus.

According to the homilist, Mary, because of her passionate discipleship and sincere love for the Master, was heavily rewarded – she got the singular privilege of being the very first to witness the Lord’s Resurrection. Which prize could be greater than this?

Drawing from Mary’s example, he urged the learners and all present, who are in one way or the other disciples of Jesus, to carry out whatever duty is entrusted to them with wholehearted devotion, diligence, and with a pure heart. In that way, they will surely gain their reward from the Lord, he said.

The Career Day, Graduation, and End-of-term Mass was animated by the Primary 6 graduands, among other learners.
