Seven Temporary Professed Sisters of the Sisters of Mary Mother of the Church (SMMC) renew their vows at the Novitiate, Sokode Gbogame in the Ho Diocese, with a recollection on the Theme “Sisters in Christ ” from June 27 to 29, 2025.
The day of recollection was facilitated by Very Rev. Fr. Michael Joy Akposu, the Parish Priest of the Holy Spirit Parish, SSNIT FLATS at Ho in Ghana’s Volta Region.
Sr. Antoinette Mawuli, SMMC, who reported on the spiritual activity, shared:” Fr. Akposu started his input with two questions for thought: Who is a sister? And who will you call a Sister among your siblings and your mates’ sisters?
Fr. Akposu explained, “A true Sister is someone who stands by you, especially during hard times, and not just when things are easy. A person you are close to and can share your innermost secrets and thoughts with, not only someone for partying or joyful moments, but also someone who helps you grow in faith and supports you in times of struggle.”
“She is also ready to lay down her life for you, no matter the challenges,” he added.
He quoted Proverbs 17:17; ‘A friend loves at all times, and a Brother/Sister is born for a time of adversity.”
Moreover, Fr. Akposu urged the Sisters to live together as siblings because siblings love each other and support each other, so they must support each other spiritually, physically, emotionally, and materially.
Only in this way could they go as far as Sisters, he added.
Sr. Seraphine Agorti, SMMC, a participant, recounted: “We can find these mutual living in Acts 4:32. “The group of believers was with one mind and heart. No one said that any of his belongings were his own, but they all shared everything they had.”
“In living as Sisters, we seek the welfare of each other. For example, Mary visited Elizabeth as a sign of concern for her. We have to bear with each other because we are chosen and set apart by God,” said Srs. Mavis Marcelline Ameko and Angela Ahali, who couldn’t hide their joy for such a renewing encounter with the Lord.
Sr. Freda Wuwortorme, SMMC, shared the input of the second session. She mentioned:” In the second session, He gave the topic: God loves Togetherness based on Genesis 1 and 2:18 ff, revealed the Holy Trinity, which is the symbol of togetherness during the creation story. So, when we live in Togetherness, we shall go far.
For Srs. Ernestine Torsoo and Ann Josepha Amelewoo, their takeaway was: “Everyone is unique, so we should not look down on anyone. Even a fool has a role to play.”
On June 29, 2025, in the Novitiate Chapel, the seven Sisters renewed their vows of Chastity, Poverty, and Obedience in the hands of the Superior General, Sr. Lucy Hometowu, SMMC, with the support of her Councillors.
Present also at the Mass of the renewal of vows were the Temporary professed Mistress, Sr. Patience Monica Akpandza, SMMC, the novice Mistress, Sr. Judith Martha Onai, SMMC, and the Novices and Sisters from Madonna House and Jubilee House communities.
