Sister Lucy Mawuena Pitapi, SMMC, is a member of the Institute of the Sisters of Mary Mother of Church (SMMC), a woman whose life is a testament to faith, compassion, and selfless service. With a heart dedicated to God and a spirit devoted to her community, she walks a path of spiritual depth, offering love and guidance to those around her. Her journey as a Religious Sister is marked by unwavering commitment, profound devotion, and a deep desire to make the world a better place, one act of kindness at a time.

Her parents are Mr. Pitapi and Madam Veronica Afi Abalo from Ziavi in the Volta region of Ghana. She was born on 4th April, 1965. Sr. Lucy joined SMMC in 1997 and took her first profession in 2000 with six others, namely Sisters Afriyie Evelyn, Cynthia Ankama, Victoria Osrade, Mary Ntenye, Elizabeth Setorwu, and Geogina Kpeglo. Interestingly, this great class of Sisters celebrates their 25th anniversary of Religious consecration this year.

Today, April 4, 2025, Sr. Lucy marks her 60th birthday. In a short discussion with her about the journey so far, she said: “The journey has not been easy and my dreams have been guided by God. I thank Him”.

Sr. Lucy is known by many in the Ho and Keta- Akatsi Dioceses as an industrious person who uses her hands to work. After her first profession of vows, she worked in the Dzelukofe Mother House community in the Keta-Akatsi Diocese for many years and moved to the Abor Sacred Heart Community. From there, she was transferred to the Sokode Gbogame Madonna House community in the Ho Diocese.

As a Catechist, she devotes time to teaching Catechism in the St. Anthony Catholic Church in Sokode Gbogame and works in the Host making room of the Institute as well. Her love for the Holy Eucharist inspires her to do her work with diligence and supply parishes near and far with the proceeds.

Currently, she is in the Novitiate community and still inspires the young ones with her hard work and prayer life. Sr. Lucy likes gardening, weaving, giving counsel at the least opportunity, and faith sharing, and loves Singing and handicraft.

Her final words are: Being Alive in Christ is what matters and not petty tribalistic tendencies in life. Let’s love one another in order to make heaven.”

Happy 60th and 25th anniversaries to Sr. Lucy Mawuena Pitapi, SMMC
