Sr. Evelyn Claudia Afriyie, SMMC, is a member of the Sisters of Mary Mother of the Church (SMMC), an Institute of indigenous Catholic Religious women in Ghana.
She is currently the Administrator of the Mater Ecclesiae Catholic Hospital at Sokode Gbogame in Ghana’s Ho Diocese and she celebrates 25 years as a Consecrated woman. She holds a degree in Human Resource Management from the Catholic Institute of Business and Technology (CIBT), Accra, and a Master’s in Health Service Management from the University of Ghana Business School (UGBS), Legon.
Hailing from Ehiamankyene in the Krachi West District of the Oti Region of Ghana, Sr. Evelyn is the first of three siblings.
She has demonstrated leadership skills from a young age. Joining her Religious Institution, Sr. Evelyn has made significant contributions to the growth of Mater Ecclesiae Catholic Hospital, spearheading its transformation from a clinic to a hospital status, and continues to advocate and solicit for support to further its development.
Sr. Evelyn Claudia Afriyie is affable, with a heavy sense of humour, compassionate, selfless and finds fulfillment in sharing with others her life and the little she has and does so with joy.
She is not afraid to take risks that promise prospect of growth professionally and often goes the extra mile.
Religious Life
Sr. Evelyn Claudia Afriyie joined the Institute of the Sisters of Mary Mother of the Church (SMMC) in 1996, made her first profession of vows in 2000 and her final profession of vows in 2009.
She worked as the medical-store keeper/ procurement office at the Sacred Heart Catholic Hospital, Abor-Weme in the Keta-Akatsi Diocese of Ghana from 2000 to 2007.
She was then transferred to the Mater Ecclesiae Clinic, at Sokode to join the Administrative staff and rose through the ranks and files to become its current Health Service Administrator.
Professional/Vocational disposition
Sr. Evelyn Claudia has navigated various challenges, including:
– Adapting to changing societal demands, and yet gracefully responding, each time, with compassion and creativity
– Balancing contemplative life with active ministry, prioritizing prayer and reflection as daily routines.
Aspirations
Sr. Evelyn Claudia Afriyie plans to:
– Expand her ministry, reaching out to the marginalized communities, par excellence, and promoting greater understanding and compassion about healthcare delivery.
– Mentor younger sisters by sharing her experience and wisdom with them.
– Continue advocating for equity, justice and peace, and inspiring others to join her in this important work.
– Sr. Evelyn is passionate about women and children’s health needs and hopes that her little efforts would lead to improving their health and welfare in her community.
