With heavy hearts, we bid farewell to a remarkable woman, a Religious — Sr. Rejoice Eugenia Sedegah, SMMC, a devoted daughter of the Church, a passionate communicator, a faithful Sister of Mary Mother of the Church (SMMC), and above all, a woman of deep faith and quiet strength.
Sr. Rejoice, you were not only a Religious Sister in the habit, but also a voice — a voice that echoed far beyond convent walls. Through your pen, your words, and your tireless service, you communicated not just messages, but meaning, mission, and hope.
As the Sister Communicator of the SMMC, you believed strongly in the power of truth told with charity.
You told the stories that needed to be told — stories of faith, of mission, of struggle, of grace. You gave voice to the voiceless and light to stories that might have been forgotten.
Many of us came to know you through your articles and news pieces regularly published in _The Catholic Standard_, Ghana’s most enduring Catholic newspaper. Your writing was clear, honest, and compassionate. In every piece, the rhythm of your prayer, the depth of your commitment, and the beauty of your soul could be felt .
But Sr. Rejoice, you did not stop there. You initiated the SMMC Newsletter, creating a platform to share the charism, activities, and lives of the Sisters with a broader audience. Your vision lives on in that publication, and will continue to live on, even now that you returned to the Father.
About three years ago, you began a journey with illness — a difficult path that you walked with the same quiet courage and dignity that marked your entire life. Through pain and silence, you bore your cross gently, never losing the hope you so often inspired in others.
And on July 5, 2025, the Lord, in His mercy, called you home — perhaps to write new stories in heaven, stories not on paper, but in the book of eternal life.
Sr. Rejoice, your name says it all. You brought rejoicing through your service. You brought eugenia — nobility — to your vocation. You were a faithful bride of Christ, a gifted communicator, a sister to many, and a friend of truth.
Though we mourn, we also give thanks. We thank God for the gift of your life. We thank you for showing us that religious life is not just lived in silence and service, but also in storytelling and witness.
You leave behind not only your writings, but also a legacy of faithful communication and love for the Church.
As we say goodbye, we do so not with despair, but with hope — the hope that one day, we too may hear the words you now surely hear:
“Well done, good and faithful servant. Enter into the joy of your Master.” (Matthew 25:21)
Rest in perfect peace, Sr. Rejoice. Amen.
