The Most Rev Mathew Gyamfi, Bishop of Sunyani has called on all Consecrated Persons in Ghana to be the voice of justice in the discharge of their religious duties.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the Jubilee Year of Consecrated Persons in Ghana at Sunyani on January 31, he said as Consecrated Persons, they have a unique and vital role to play in the renewal of our world.

He further echoed that through their witness of simplicity, poverty, chastity, and obedience, they offer a counter-cultural message that speaks to the heart of humanity’s deepest longing, stating that they are called to be advocates for the marginalized, and protectors of creation as the Holy Father mentioned in his encyclical ‘ Laudato Si’.

He further encouraged the Consecrated Persons that in a world often clouded by despair, division, and uncertainty, they are called to be beacons of hope.

Your lives, rooted in prayer, community and service, are a testament to the enduring presence of God’s love and mercy.”

He added: “We are pilgrims journeying with faith and trust, carrying the light of hope to every corner of our world.”

To renew the face of the earth, the Bishop said “we must first renew ourselves.”

The president of the Bishops’ Conference saw the day’s gathering as a way of honouring the hard work of all the dedications and commitments being made by all the religious in the Church of Ghana.

He stated that it is a time to reflect on the past, rejoice in the present, and look forward with hope to the future.

Bishop Gyamfi stated to state that in the light of this 2025 Jubilee Celebration of Consecrated Men and Women in Ghana, “we are invited to reflect deeply on the theme: “Pilgrims of Hope: A Time to Renew the Face of the Earth as Consecrated Persons.”

This theme is not only a call to honour our journey but also a powerful reminder of our mission in today’s world.

Having appreciated and welcomed the Religious to his Diocese, the Sunyani Bishop enthusiastically called on all Religious to come and work in the Diocese.

He stated that, the more he has the more he makes his Diocese grow more spiritually and even materially.
