Sisters of the Congregation of Religious of the Virgin Mary (RVM) in collaboration with RVM Lay Associates have organized a mass wedding for 12 couples on February 22, 2025 after months of counselling.

This occasion was inspired by the Post-Synodal Apostolic Exhortation AMORIS LÆTITIA of the Holy Father Pope Francis, on Family Life and it crises and also, the opening of the congregation in Ghana.

The 12 couples christened as representing the 12 Apostles in the Jubilee Year of Hope, who made it to the Altar are: Joseph Saalah and Monica Akpaloo, Christian Atsu Akorli and Perpetual Agyeiwaa, Michael Agyapong and Theresa Oforiwaa, Isaac kwaku Mensah and Gyamfua Janet, Isaac Kwame Owusu Ansah and Esther Yeboah, Peter Yaw Kusi and Comfort Serwaa, Sougah Evans Boakye and Margaret Akulsum, Linus Salalibong and Cynthia Degne, Isadore Patrick and Agartha Degura, Gabriel Naaba And Hanna Afia Zokor, Michael Frimpong Duku and Sarah Nketia.

Rev. Fr. Francis Kusi Ababio, Assistant Priest of Duayaw Nkwanta St. John of God Catholic Church and the main celebrant of the Mass expressed his gratitude to the RVM Sisters for their initiative and hard work, saying that throughout his stay in the Parish, it is his first time of witnessing such occasion.

The Homilist, Rev. Fr. Gregory Asomaning reminded the couples that Marriage is a very beautiful vocation, if they have it, they should maintain it well.

According to him, women should be helpers to their husbands for that was the reason they were created, advising them to be a source of consolation and joy to their husbands.

He urged women to avoid nagging their husbands when they are troubled or are in crises, adding, women were created out of men with only one rib of the man, so Husbands should handle their wives with care for they are precious and delicate.

Again, he admonished husbands to grant the needs of their wives for men are the strength of women in marriage.

The Mass concelebrated by Rev. Fr. Daniel Afum, Parish Priest of Duayaw Nkwanta St. John of God Catholic Church, and Fr. Lawrence Adu Gyamfi Communication Director for the Diocese of Goaso.

The RVM Sisters came to Ghana through the invitation of the late Bishop James Kwadwo Owusu of Sunyani Diocese, who met two RVM Sisters in Australia for a family life conference. The congregation was invited to Ghana by the late Bishop to teach families about family life and other apostolic works.

The Sisters shares in the Church’s teachings that Marriage Life is a vocation and the word Vocation is from the Latin word “vocare,” which means a calling or summoning. A vocation is God’s invitation to love and serve him and his Church in a particular way of life, leading to holiness.

The vocations in the Catholic Church are interlaced and supporting one another. Faith-filled marriages produce those who answer the call to priesthood and religious life. So, if Marriage life is facing crises in our modern world then there is a probability of getting low vocation into Priesthood and consecrated life.

The Bible presents the family as a place where children are brought up in the faith. Jesus himself was born into a modest and Faith-filled family, that soon had He started His ministry.

Marriages are stronger due to the prayers and example of holiness given to Christians each day by priests and religious brothers and sisters. Family as well as Marriage is the foundation of all vocations. The Bible start with family, our first parent Adam and Eve.
