The Very Rev. Fr. Bernard Appiah Adjei, SVD, Cathedral Administrator of the St. Francis Xavier Cathedral at Donkorkrom, has lauded the Consecrated Women who fall under the Cathedral Church for their active participation in this year’s celebrations of the Solemnity of the Body and Blood of Christ.

Speaking during the June 22, 2025 Mass of the Solemnity at the St. Theresa Catholic Church, Kwaekese, an Outstation of the Cathedral, Fr. Adjei made it known that the Sisters played a pivotal role in the preparations towards the celebrations.

The roles included decorations, training the young people who were to participate in cultural dances and other forms of entertainment the previous day.

The Sisters of Mary Mother of the Church (SMMC), who are resident at Kwaekese, were particularly commended for their efforts in joining the Parish to prepare the grounds for the two-day long celebrations.

It was also through the timely cry for help by the SMMC Sisters, that the bad roads leading to the Church and their Community, were temporarily mended.

This was by kind courtesy of Mr. James Adraku, a parishioner, in collaboration with the District Chief Executive for Afram Plains North.

In a homily during the Corpus Christi Mass, the Cathedral Administrator admonished all the faithful to always prepare themselves before any Eucharistic Sacrifice, and be fully present, as this would help prevent distractions of any kind during Mass.

He further underscored that the Eucharist, is an invitation for all Christians to partake in the celebration of God offering himself for all, and so must be approached with total reverence and presence of mind.

“Offer yourself, take part in it, because this is a celebration for which Christ suffered for you, died for you, gave himself for you and he instituted it for all of us to celebrate,” he buttressed.

Fr. Adjei warned against the use of phones during Mass, which he termed “the biggest animal,” which many Christians have become slaves to, as they find it difficult to detach from it, even when they come to Church.

According to the Cathedral Administrator, the Solemnity of Corpus Christi focuses on two things: Christ giving his Body and Blood, and the manifestation of the Church.

He added that Christ is the centre of every Eucharistic celebration and so “when we meet for Mass, we celebrate God, we celebrate Christ, we celebrate the power of the Holy Spirit,” and it doesn’t matter how many people are present for Mass to be efficacious.

As the procession with the Most Blessed Sacrament was going to be done across the Kwaekese township, the SVD Priest urged the faithful to pray for fertility for the land, in addition to their own private intentions.

The Sisters present at the Corpus Christi Mass were: Sr. Margaret Adukonu, Sr. Pearl Dora Tsetse, Sr. Faustine Joan Ntem, Sr. Francisca Kumevor, Sr. Doris Mawuvi, Sr. Ann Amelewo, all of the Congregation of the Sisters of Mary Mother of the Church (SMMC).

Others were Sr. Jessie Quist and Sr. Mary Stella Darkoah, Handmaids of the Divine Redeemer (HDR), and Sr. Stella Nwosu and Sr. Sylvie Lum Cho, Missionary Sisters of the Holy Rosary (MSHR).

Also present were Bro. Samuel Elorm Dagadu, SVD, Vicariate Financial Administrator and Director of the Alfons Merten’s Centre.

Concelebrating the Mass were Rev. Fr. Vincent Amuzu Asafo, SVD, Bishop Secretary and Assistant Cathedral Administrator and Rev. Fr. Matthew Akakpo, Assisting Priest at the Cathedral.

Catholics from across the 14 Outstations of the Cathedral were present at the celebrations.
