The West Africa Province of the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Cluny (SJC) has embarked on a month-long programme of spiritual renewal and personal growth for its Temporary Professed Sisters in Freetown, Sierra Leone.

The initiative, aimed at deepening the spiritual lives and strengthening the communal bonds of the young Sisters, brought together 13 Temporary Professed Sisters from The Gambia, Sierra Leone, and Ghana.

The gathering being held at Javouhey House, Leicester Peak in Freetown, from August 12 to 20, offers the Sisters an enriching opportunity to grow in faith and deepen their understanding of the Cluny charism.

In his homily during the Celebration of the Holy Eucharist, Rev. Fr. Joseph Karbo, Rector of St. Paul’s Major Seminary in Freetown, encouraged the Sisters to remain open to the workings of God in their lives.

He advised them not to allow their painful or bitter experiences to define them negatively, but instead to transform those experiences into opportunities to become the best versions of themselves.

Special appreciation was extended to Sr. Angela Bangura, Provincial Superior, and her Council for their support and commitment in organising the formative encounter.

The programme was attended by Sr. Marie Madeleine Lepcha, who travelled from India to accompany the Sisters on their spiritual journey, and Sr. Josephine Kamanda, Mistress of the Temporary Professed Sisters in the West African Province.

The spiritual renewal is part of the Congregation’s ongoing efforts to nurture and strengthen the vocation of young Sisters in the Cluny tradition of service, prayer, and community life.

The Sisters of St. Joseph of Cluny is a Catholic Religious Institute for Women founded in 1807. Stationed around the world, its members perform a variety of charitable works but they devote themselves especially to missionary work and providing education for the poor.
