Behind The Camera: My First CASCON-GH Media Training

Joining the Catholic Sister Communicators Network, Ghana (CASCON-GH) Media and Communications training for the first time at the Centre for Spiritual and Renewal, Santase, Kumasi, was both exciting and inspiring. Although I already had experience using artificial intelligence tools to design flyers and create digital content, this workshop opened my eyes to a much broader world of professional communication.

Throughout the training, each Congregation received a camera and practical lessons on its operation and maintenance. We were also introduced to the art of interviewing using the five W’s and one H—Who, What, When, Where, Why and How. These simple but powerful principles showed us how to gather information accurately and tell stories that truly matter.

My greatest surprise came when I was assigned as the videographer for my group. It was my first time handling a professional camera, yet with the guidance of our facilitators and the encouragement of my teammates, every video we produced came out well. That experience taught me that confidence grows when we are willing to learn.

This workshop has deepened my appreciation for Catholic media ministry. I arrived with some digital skills, but I am leaving with practical knowledge, renewed confidence and a greater desire to use communication as a tool for evangelisation. I am grateful to CASCON-GH and everyone who made this learning experience possible. This is only the beginning of a journey that I look forward to continuing.
