My name is Sr. Felicia Chukwudiebere Agorchukwu, a Religious member of Daughters of Mary Mother of Mercy, DMMM.
Indeed, there are many beautiful colours in the world, but I love blue more than all.
First, blue is the colour of our Mother Virgin Mary. In her, blue speaks of humility, fidelity, and deep trust in God. Whenever I see the colour blue, it reminds me of Mother Mary — the woman who said “yes” to God, who pondered things in her heart, who stood in faith at the foot of the cross, and who continues to be Mother of God and my Mother. My love for her is great and deep, and I strive each day to imitate her gentle, obedient, and merciful heart.

Beyond devotion, blue is the colour of peace and tranquility. It mirrors the endless sky and the vast ocean — vast, calm, and full of hope. It invites us to silence, to prayer, and to listening. Just as the sky stretches above us without limits, so too does God’s mercy stretch over all His children. Blue reminds me that I am called to be a person of peace in a world that is often troubled.

For us in the Daughters of Mary Mother of Mercy, blue is more than a colour. It is a reminder of our identity and mission. We are called to be women of compassion, mercy, and service — women who, like Mary, visit the lonely, console the sorrowful, and bring Christ to others. I’m Mary went in haste to Elizabeth. She stayed with the disciples in the Upper Room. She stands with us today. Blue calls us to that same haste in love and that same steadfast presence.
The colour blue has also taught me to appreciate the simple yet profound joys of life. Every shade tells a story of God’s providence — from the pale blue of dawn to the deep blue of night. It teaches me patience, faith, and the beauty of waiting on the Lord. I carry the essence of blue in my heart. It has become for me a symbol of hope, of Marian devotion, and of the mercy we are sent to share with the world.

Finally, today many female Religious Congregations wear habits of blue and white in imitation of the virtues of our beloved Mother Mary — her purity, her obedience, her motherly love, and her unwavering faith. In wearing and loving this colour, we are reminded that we do not belong to ourselves, but to Christ and to His Mother, and through them, to all God’s people.
