Kumasi, Ghana | 30th July 2026

The Catholic Sisters Communicators Network, Ghana (CASCON-GH) has officially commenced a three-day in-person Media Training for about 40 Sister Communicators at the Centre of Spiritual Renewal, at Santasi in the Catholic Archdiocese of
Kumasi.

The training workshop, which runs from July 29 to August 2, 2026, aims to strengthen participants’ digital communication skills and equip them with the tools needed to effectively promote the mission and apostolic works of their respective congregations through modern media.

The opening session began with a warm welcome and introduction of the facilitators by Mr. Robert Dela Mawuenyegah, one of the resource persons for the training.

He introduced the facilitation team, comprising Mr. Damian Avevor, Mr. Eric Coco Mawuenyegah, Ms. Jennifer Kwakyewa Akuamoah, John Kyei, and Mr. Derrick Attitsogbui Klu, who will guide participants throughout the workshop.

The first training session, which commenced on July 30, focused on Website Management and Ethics.

The Participants explored the importance of websites as effective communication platforms for religious congregations and learned best practices in website management, digital security, ethical communication, and the responsible use of online platforms.

During the practical session, Mr. Eric Coco Mawuenyegah, an IT Expert, guided participants through the WordPress dashboard, introducing its key features and functionalities.

The Participants logged into their CASCON-GH website, navigated the dashboard, and gained hands-on experience publishing news stories and other digital content.

The session also introduced participants to the effective use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in communication.

They learned how AI tools can assist in designing attractive news flyers and visual content, with each participant successfully creating a news flyer during the practical exercise.

In the afternoon, the Executive Director of CASCON-GH, Sr. Emmanuela Dakurah, HHCJ, presented each participant with a DSLR camera and a CASCON-GH branded media jackets to support their communication ministry.

The presentation was warmly received and reflected CASCOM Ghana’s commitment to empowering Sister Communicators with the necessary tools for effective evangelization through the media.

The day’s activities continued with an engaging hands-on photography session facilitated by Mr. Derrick Attitsogbui and his team. Participants were introduced to the essential components of a DSLR camera, including the lens, battery, SD card, flash, and other accessories. They also learned how to assemble and disassemble the camera, correctly insert the battery and memory card, attach the lens, and safely handle the equipment.

The facilitators emphasised that photography is fundamentally the art of capturing light, helping participants appreciate the importance of proper camera handling and preparation before taking photographs.

Through demonstrations and practical exercises, the Sister Communicators gained confidence in operating their cameras in readiness for the intensive practical sessions scheduled for the following day.

The first day concluded on a high note, with participants expressing gratitude and enthusiasm for the knowledge and practical skills acquired.

The training will continue over the next two days with sessions on interview techniques, mock interviews, photography, videography, and video editing, all aimed at empowering Sister Communicators to tell the stories of their congregations with professionalism, creativity, and excellence.
