Sacred Heart SHS Marks Pentecost with Baptisms and First Holy Communion

This year’s Pentecost celebration was marked with joy and solemnity at the Sacred Heart Senior High School in Nsoatre, in Ghana’s Bono Region, as the Catholic Church worldwide commemorated the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles and the birth of the Church.

The celebration, held at the school’s chapel, was highlighted by the administration of the Sacraments of initiation, with twenty-one students receiving Baptism and ten others receiving their First Holy Communion.

The Holy Mass was presided over by the School Chaplain, Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Appiah Adongo, who urged students and the entire congregation to live as true witnesses of Christ through the power of the Holy Spirit.

In his homily, Fr Adongo reminded the faithful that all Christians are endowed with the Holy Spirit to speak on behalf of God and to serve as prophets, priests, kings, and queens in their various spheres of life.

He also emphasised the unity of the Holy Trinity, explaining that while God the Father initiated creation, the Son brought salvation, and the Holy Spirit continues to dwell among believers, guiding them to understand and live out the Gospel.

Addressing the baptismal candidates, the Chaplain called on the congregation to pray for God’s mercy upon them, that they may grow into faithful Christians.

He further prayed that the Holy Spirit would bestow upon them gifts and talents to serve both God and humanity, while reflecting God’s glory in their lives.

The atmosphere was filled with thanksgiving and celebration as the newly baptised students were warmly welcomed into the Christian community, and the First Communicants received the Eucharist for the first time.

At the close of the Mass, Fr. Adongo expressed gratitude to the school community for their support and prayers.

He also commended the animators who prepared the candidates, members of staff, and all who served as Godparents.

The celebration served as a reminder that Pentecost is not only a historical event but also a continuing call for Christians to live under the guidance of the Holy Spirit in faith, unity, and service to others.
