Evolution rarely happens overnight, but for the Catholic Sister Communicators Network-Ghana (CASCON-GH), two years of unwavering dedication have borne transformative fruit.
What began as a modest initiative equipped with basic smartphones has officially stepped into a new era of professional media ministry.
Gathered at the Centre for Spiritual Renewal in Santasi, within the Catholic Archdiocese of Kumasi, 40 Consecrated women representing 22 Religious Congregations and Institutes across Ghana marked a major milestone during their intensive training workshop.
In a moment that symbolised both growth and gratitude, digital cameras were formally presented to the participating Congregations—marking a decisive upgrade from smartphone reporting to high-quality photojournalism and videography.

Honouring the Foundations
To appreciate the significance of this moment, one must look back to where it all began. Established by the Conference of Major Superiors of Religious, Ghana (CMSR-GH) with funding from the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation, CASCON-GH was birthed through the initiative of the Sisters of Mary Mother of the Church (SMMC).
The network was officially registered as a company limited by guarantee in July 2024, guided in its inception by Sr. Cecilia Afari, SMMC, who served as the pioneer Project Manager.
Before CASCON-GH, the CMSR-Gh saw the need to equip Consecrated women with the skills to tell their own stories; and had trained 20 Sisters in media and Communication far back in December 2022.
This group of communicators named Religious Sisters in Media, used to write news that were published by Global Newswatch Media and Communications on their online portal- Newswatchgh.com.
Some of these Sisters have become the foundation stones on which CASCON- GH was built.

We appreciate the unwavering support of Global Newswatch Media and Communications, represented by Mr. Damian Avevor and Mr. Robert Mawuenyegah.
Their training of the Religious Sisters in the Media, now Sister Communicators has not been in vain, it bore fruit and will continue to bear more fruit.
In those early days, the network’s 20 pioneer Sisters were handed smartphones and a clear mandate: tell the stories of the Consecrated Women to promote the Church’s mission in Ghana.
Operating on mobile devices presented continuous technical challenges, from limited picture resolution to storage constraints.
Yet, rather than stepping back, these pioneer Sisters demonstrated remarkable resilience, perseverance, and commitment. They kept the network active, proving that passion and purpose matter far more than equipment.

A New Chapter in Catholic Media
Today, that resilience has paid off. The delivery of professional digital cameras to the 22 represented congregations and Institutes stands as proof that CASCON-GH has matured into a formidable communication voice.
While celebrating this milestone, the network pays tribute to Sr. Cecilia Afari, SMMC, whose vision helped CASCON-GH see the light of day, while commending the present management team for taking the practical steps to equip the Sisters for modern digital evangelisation.
Equipped with new tools, trained in digital storytelling, and united across diverse charisms, Ghana’s Sister Communicators are no longer just capturing moments on mobile screens—they are focusing their lenses on a brighter, more visible future for the Church’s mission.
